Live Oak Art Center Brings You Famed Artists
Thursday Jun 25, 2020
Gallery Hours: Wed - Fri: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. • Sat: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Live Oak Art Center"Gemini" Art Exhibit - Meet the Artists Reception
Plan to attend the opening of Gemini, an exhibition of paintings featured at the Live Oak Art Center in Columbus, Texas. The free event offers attendees the opportunity to enjoy the creative works by two nationally known and internationally collected artists, Karen Vernon and Ken Muenzenmayer. This husband and wife team are both painters and colorists, each working in different media and with different, creative artistic voices.
While their journeys and experiences may overlap, they like twins, are each unique in expression and interests. Where Muenzenmayer is drawn to landscapes and skies, Vernon delves into the vibrant hues and patterns created in flowers along with her own creative exploration of landscapes and figurative paintings. Both artists are traditionalists who depart from photographic realism to abstracted expressionism.
Muenzenmayer has exhibited his work from Alaska to Maine, from California to Florida. He is a graduate of The Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. His art career has led him to developing a unique style in acrylic painting for which he has taken awards across the nation. “Ken Muenzenmayer exhibits a strong love of the tranquil places which dot the earth from the Southwest to Europe, from manmade meadows and parks to the untamed wilderness.”
Calvin Goodman, Los Angeles, CA Author
His paintings display “a richness of color and surface, unusual in the acrylic medium. He often paints those parts of the world most of us never get tired of looking at – the edges where the sea meets the land; where shadows meet the light; where the marshes meet the trees.”
Dr. Betty Rubenstein, The Tallahassee Democrat, Tallahassee, FL
Karen Vernon works in several painting media. Known best for her watercolors, Vernon has expanded her exploration of color and pattern into pastel and oils as well. Local scenes and florals are her primary focus with the addition of an occasional figurative piece, captured from a special meeting along the way.
Vernon’s paintings are found in museums in Europe and the United States. Her works are collected across the world and found in the collections of royalty, famous and notable patrons. She shares the common interest in color and light with that of her husband. “Her paintings are filled with expressive color and radiant light. Her investigation of light and pattern is evident and her renderings, sophisticated.” The Houston Chronicle, Houston, TX.
“Vernon’s strong command of color contrast and remarkable control of detail lies at the base of her expressions of the love of nature and deepest human values.” Calvin Goodman, Los Angeles, CA
Both artists are excited to be exhibiting at the Live Oak Art Center saying, “This is a great opportunity to show our works near home. Columbus and this region are so very fortunate to have such a lovely facility that is available to all. Art elevates life and the art center is a part of providing world class work to those who come. As Hippocrates said, ‘Life is short, the art long.’ The beauty, the history, the story told of man through paintings and other creative expression, lives well beyond us individually. Creativity takes courage. And as Pablo Picasso said, ‘Everything you can imagine is real.’ Live Oak nurtures great imaginations, great lives and great people.”
The exhibition, “Gemini” will be on exhibit from June 3, 2020 to July 25, 2020 at the Live Oak Art Center located at 1014 Milam Street, Columbus, Texas. For additional information, contact Sam Parks at 979-732-8398
